It's coming up to Open Air Theatre season so if you love theatre, the wonder of entertainment in the open air on a summers evening, and the joy of an English garden then this one's for you! 

With this GrooVee you get 2 tickets of your choice to any of the 36 performances from 11 different theatre companies from around the country which are being brought to us here in North Devon by The Plough Arts Centre once again this summer. The shows take place on various dates from May to end August in one of 14 beautiful  Devon garden venues including  Castle Hill, Filleigh; Tapeley Park ; Tawstock Court, Barnstaple; Manor Green Lynmouth); Blackberry Farm, Milton Damerel; Eggesford Barton; Vicarage Garden,Torrington; RHS Garden Rosemoor; Hartland Abbey; Arlington Court (NT); Yarnscombe Village Hall; Fyne Court (NT)  Somerset; Lapford Mill, Nr Crediton; Castle Drogo (NT). There is plenty to choose from to suit all ages.  Your tickets include free entry to the gardens from 2 hours before the performance  for shows starting at 7pm and 1 hour before the performance for 5pm or 6pm shows. Shows start at a variety of times from 5pm, 6pm, 7pm or 7.30pm  (check the list of events below for details), so take some low back chairs or a rug and a picnic and maybe even a bottle or two and make a real summer evening of it! 

The earlier performances will delight both children and adults, and you can bring your own picnic to enjoy on the lawns or you can buy refreshments there (refreshments are available at all venues this year). The evening performances are geared towards a more adult audience, hence the later start though most performances are suitable for children.

Whichever performances you choose (and you can buyin as many times and for as many of the shows as you like) you're sure to have a magical and memorable evening of joy and entertainment in one of the finest gardens in our beautiful county.

Frequently Asked Questions about the whole Open-Air Theatre Season:

  • Ticket holders enjoy free access to the gardens two hours before 7pm performances and one hour before earlier performances.
  • All performances last approx 2 hours with a 20 mins interval
  • High quality refreshments and drinks are available at all venues.
  • All venues invite you to bring low back seating, blankets, and picnics if desired.
  • An area for people on blankets is reserved at the front.
  • Well behaved dogs are welcome at most venues.
  • The following may be useful: A torch, insect repellent, an umbrella (or sunshade!)
  • Performances continue regardless of the weather. Be prepared!
  • Some venues have indoor alternatives in case of very bad weather (The Vicarage Garden Torrington , Blackberry Farm Milton Damerel and Manor Green Lynmouth, Tawstock Court)
  • Most venues have level access, adjacent parking and toilet facilities suitable for disabled people.

My family enjoyed at least 2 of the open air shows for the past three years and 3 the year before that so we can tell you they are seriously not to be missed!
